Most people's responses to life are based on their lived experiences. Even to realise that requires that we interact with a diverse group of people and not live in a small bubble. And then learning to honour the differences helps cultivate empathy.

When I am triggered by someone's behaviour I like to lean into curiosity - what could this person's lived experience be that makes them react this way. Curiosity then leads to compassion. I may not like the persons behaviour or choices but it helps to not push them out of my life. And that's helpful as there is always something more to learn from everyone we encounter in our lives making our own world view enriching & dynamic.

Nice article but many layers of thought :)

Absolutely - interacting with a diverse group is essential (or at least makes it much easier) to understand that there are multiple perspectives.

Your sensitive reaction is brilliant. Something to keep in mind as a "do it this way" for me. To pause between stimulus and response is probably the hardest thing, personally.

You are not alone. It takes time to feel confident in our ability to access the pause. What helps me is a daily meditation practice & intentionally coming home to myself again & again & again. Hard but worth it!
