Don’t Become Unbreakable. Become Rebuildable.
Bouncing back to where you were, after being smashed
I used to think strength meant being hard to break.
Then I broke.
When I tore my ACL, I was broken. For a while, I lost my normal life. Walking was difficult. Stairs became a negotiation. Pain was constant enough to become background noise.
And underneath all of it was the quieter wound.
I was a strength coach.
A person who taught people how to move, train, and build resilient bodies. And now my own body had failed me. Or at least, that is how it felt at the time.
That injury forced me to rethink strength.
Until then, I had mostly understood strength as “lift a shit ton”. How much can you lift? How hard can you train? How much can you tolerate before you break?
But the ACL taught me a different kind of strength.
Not the strength of iron.
The strength of something elastic.
Because real strength is not being unaffected.
Real strength is being affected, being honest about it, and still finding your way back.
There is a kind of person who tries to become unbreakable. They tighten everything. Their body. Their mind. Their expectations. Their identity.
But rigidity has a problem.
When enough force arrives, it cracks.
Elasticity works differently.
It bends.
It absorbs.
It changes shape.
Then, slowly, it returns.
Not dramatic. Not heroic. Not cinematic.
Just small acts of return.
Getting range back.
Trusting the knee again.
Learning to load slowly.
Learning how to run again.
Accepting that some days would be worse than others.
Letting the body teach me patience instead of trying to dominate it.
That journey made me a better coach because it stripped away the fantasy of invincibility.
I no longer wanted to help people become machines.
Because it was not possible.
I wanted to help them become strong while being human. While dealing with life.
A strong body is not a body that never hurts.
A strong mind is not a mind that never struggles.
A strong life is not a life that never breaks.
Strength is the ability to meet stress without losing yourself completely.
And this is why training matters.
Every rep is not just building muscle. It is teaching your body how to receive force.
Every setback is not just an interruption. It is a chance to practice returning.
Every bad day is not proof that you are fragile. It is information.
You are allowed to be affected.
You are allowed to bend.
You are allowed to need time.
The goal is not to become unbreakable.
The goal is to become elastic.
One rep at a time.

This post reminded me of a lovely quote by Sharon Salzberg. It goes, "The healing is in the return, not in never having wandered to begin with.”
Hi coach, These 3 lines are life lessons which keeps lingering ! Thanks 🙏
